Chromebook: PC maker HP has joined hands with Google to manufacture Chromebooks in India from October 2, the company said on Thursday. According to a statement issued by HP, the Chromebook devices will be manufactured at the Flex facility near Chennai. HP has been producing a range of laptops and desktops there since August 2020.
“The creation of Chromebook laptops in India will enable Indian students to have easy access to affordable PCs,” HP India Senior Director Personal Systems Vikram Bedi said. “The local production of Chromebooks with HP is in line with our efforts to continue supporting the digital transformation of education in India,” Said Bani Dhawan, Head of Education, South Asia, Google.
India is focusing on digital education and many government schools are investing in computing hardware, including laptops, desktops and tablets. The Make in India plan of Chromebooks (which are in the price range of Rs 20,000-30,000) is also likely to help HP secure orders from government schools. Have to do it too.
Also, given that the Chromebook is a low-cost hardware, even with Make in India, the price will remain competitive. The devices will be manufactured at the Flex facility near Chennai — where HP has been producing laptops and desktops from August 2020 to October 2.
